Unsee the World: A Unique Visual Experience by Canon
World Unseen is a Canon initiative that allows individuals with sight loss to engage with photography in meaningful ways while encouraging sighted viewers to reconsider how they experience visual art. Through this interactive exhibit, you can explore how photography connects people across different experiences—and how vision, in all its forms, shapes the way we see the world.
About the campaign
Canon’s World Unseen exhibition (Created in partnership with the Royal National Institute of Blind People) reimagined how people engage with visual art, with the goal of making photography more accessible through immersive multi-sensory design. The event drew more than 1,100 visitors during its short 3-day run from April 5th to 7th at Somerset House in London.
The imagery
This wasn’t a typical photography exhibition. World Unseen featured work from renowned photographers, but the focus wasn’t just on what you could see — it was about how you could feel and understand each image. Visitors explored the photos primarily through audio descriptions and Braille, as well as raised prints and ambient soundscapes. Each image was displayed on screens designed to simulate visual impairments such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. This allowed sighted visitors to better understand how people with limited vision experience the world.
Get inspired
You can explore some of the works featured in the exhibition here. Canon used the Arizona printer series and the PRISMAelevate XL software to create the relief and Braille versions of the pictures. If you’re interested in these products, feel free to ask about them at our camera store in Dubai.
